Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA)

$50,000 grant

Eating Disorders Families Australia plan to use this grant to establish a Hospital Liaison Officer in Brisbane, Queensland. This innovative project will fill a critical gap by providing direct, lived-experience support to families navigating the complex world of hospital admissions for eating disorder treatment. Many families feel lost and unsupported during this time, and EDFA’s project will offer practical and emotional guidance to reduce uncertainty and isolation.

Our Hospital Liaison Officer will work with Queensland hospitals, distributing over 500 information packs and offering 250 one-on-one support sessions to families. The goal is to help carers better understand recovery and how to advocate for their loved ones effectively, reducing the chances of relapse and the need for hospital readmissions.

With a proven track record of delivering national support to more than 3,000 carers through online groups and with the delivery of more than 1,000 counselling sessions through our ‘Fill the Gap’ program, EDFA is uniquely positioned to achieve meaningful results. This project will be the first of its kind in Queensland and, if successful, will provide a model for national expansion. By investing in this program, Women & Change members can help transform the hospital experience for families facing eating disorder recovery challenges.
